Faced with drought conditions this year and other challenges facing city water supples, Fort Collins enacted watering restrictions that went in effect on April 1 to help avoid the need for higher restriction levels later this summer.
Currently, the city is on a "Level 1" Watering Restriction plan. Highlights of the program include:
When washing a car, a hose with a shut-off nozzle and bucket are required. Washing impervious surfaces such as driveways and sidewalks is not allowed.
Permits are available to allow for exceptions to assigned watering days.
Education is the first step of enforcing restrictions. so first violations will receive a written warning and information about the water restrictions. Second and following violations are subject to a minimum fine of $50 each ($250 for non-residential), up to a maximum fine of $1,000 per violation. Residents can call the hotline at 970.416.2881 or contact Fort Collins Utilites to report violators.
