Rockies Place OF Michael Cuddyer On 15-Day DL

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 18) with a left hamstring strain. In addition, the club has recalled infielder Charlie Culberson from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Culberson (#23) will be available for tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field (6:05 p.m. MDT on Newsradio 850 KOA).

Cuddyer, 35, opened the year hitting .317 (19-for-60) with 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 10 RBI and 11 runs in 16 games and started the season on a 10-game hitting streak. Last season, Cuddyer became the sixth Rockie to win a National League batting title and set career highs in batting average (.331, 162-for-489), on-base percentage (.389), slugging (.530), and OPS (.919). He was selected to the All-Star team for the second time (2011 with Minnesota) and participated in the Home Run Derby for the first time. The Norfolk, VA native has played in 1,386 career games hitting .277 (1380-for-4979) with 304 doubles, 40 triples, 180 home runs, 732 RBI and 744 runs.

Culberson, 25, made his first Opening Day roster this year and appeared in 9 games for the Rockies, going 2-for-18 with a double and 2 RBI before being optioned to Triple-A on April 13. With the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Culberson went 3-for-7 with 2 doubles and a run scored in 2 games. Last season, he split the year between Triple-A Colorado Springs and Colorado. With the Rockies, he played 47 games and hit .293 (29-for-99) with 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs. The 6-foot right-hander has hit .245 (34-for-139) with 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 15 RBI and 12 runs in 62 Major League games.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
